Weekly vs Fortnightly Housekeeping: Which Is Right For You?

Choosing the right housekeeping frequency is one of the most important decisions you'll make when setting up a new service. Here's how to decide what's right for your home.

The Case for Weekly Housekeeping

If you have a large home, a busy household, pets, or young children, weekly housekeeping is almost always the better option. It keeps your home in a consistently immaculate state without any gradual build-up of dirt or clutter. Many of our Cheshire clients with larger properties — particularly in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge — opt for weekly visits as their standard.

When Fortnightly Works Well

Fortnightly housekeeping suits smaller homes, single occupants, or households that maintain good daily habits. If you keep on top of day-to-day tidying and only need thorough housekeeping every two weeks, fortnightly visits can work very well and represent a more economical option.

The Real Difference

The key difference isn't just frequency — it's the depth of attention required each visit. A weekly housekeeper maintains the standard established from the previous visit. A fortnightly housekeeper often needs to spend more time addressing two weeks of accumulated use. Neither is better or worse; it depends entirely on your household.

Our Recommendation

We always recommend starting with weekly housekeeping if budget permits and stepping down to fortnightly if you feel it's more than you need. It's much easier to reduce frequency than to increase it after standards have been allowed to slip.
